In my can of monster

…is the bumble bee I almost swallowed. Well, you can’t really see it here, and it isn’t in the can anymore. While I was at the Halloween parade today, I took a swig of Monster, and realized Monster is not supposed to have chunks. I promptly spit that sucker out and was suprised to discover it was a bumble bee on the pavement. I honestly had visions of houseflies at the moment I felt it in my mouth. Of course, I could no longer drink the Monster, as it was contaminated and grossed me out. =)

QotD: Good On A Cold Day

What food or drink do you love when it’s cold out?  (Recipes and recommendations, please!)

Earl Grey Tea to drink. Loaded Baked Potato Soup to eat. Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 7 cups milk
  • 4 large baking potatoes, baked, cooled, peeled and cubed, about 4 cups
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 10 to 12 strips bacon, cooked, drained, and crumbled
  • 1 1/4 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

PREPARATION:

In a large Dutch oven or stockpot over low heat, melt butter. Stir in flour; stir until smooth and bubbly. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until sauce has thickened. Add potatoes and onions. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until soup begins to bubble. Reduce heat; simmer gently for 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients; stir until cheese is melted. Serve baked potato soup immediately.
This baked potato soup recipe serves 6 to 8.

First cold of the season…

Ick. I have a cold. Nasty, old, drippy cold. I should have known it was coming with how exhausted and run down I have been lately. I have spent the week suffering though headaches, running nose, congestion, and a sore throat. Fun stuff that I am sure no one wants to hear about. =)

I am totally anti-medications though. Herbal is my way to go, just sometimes it takes a little longer. I have never liked how over the counter cold remedies make me feel. They typically make me feel tired and drugged up and I think that is worse than the cold itself. I prefer extra sleep, vitamin C, zinc, and for congestion, a few cups of mullein leaf tea.

I do sometimes wish I was still just a kid though, when having a cold meant staying home from school. My mom would make me a bed on the couch and bundle me up with an afghan. She would give me warm lemon tea and cinnamon toast. =)

How have you fared so far this season? What are your favorite cold remedies, pharmaceutical or otherwise? How have these changed since your childhood?Comment posted by Eol Ruin

I suggest NeoCitran - but no idea if its available in US.More nature - much tea with honey and a very warm blanket …
