Concert: My Chemical Romance

Shot from the My Chemical Romance Concert in KCK

Boy did I strike gold yesterday! Although it was the dreaded tax day and one thing went wrong after another, a friend of mine called and said she had an extra ticket for the My Chemical Romance concert that night and did I want to go. Of

course, I felt really guilty about accepting since I had a ton of crap to do and was having such a terrible day, but her husband pretty much talked me into it. It didn’t take much really because I do like MCR.

I haven’t been to a concert since Megadeth (with the Misfits opening) in ‘99. Oh boy things have changed and I have certainly gotten older but I eventually really got into the music and started dancing and jumping and singing along. It was great fun and a much needed release. I love any opportunity where I can dance like no one is watching and sing my heart out like no one is listening.

Today I still managed to get up on time for work but my ears are still ringing. I took some pictures with my phone and since it doesn’t zoom I had to modify them in iPhoto after the fact. They aren’t the best since we chose to head up to the top balcony but it was a good location for watching the show even if the pictures are blah.

Moral of the story: great concert, great opening acts (Drive By and Billy Talent), and I really need to do this more often!

QotD: My Ring Sounds Like…

Ringtones: What’s yours and how often do you change it?
Submitted by enrico.

I did have Teardrop by Massive Attack but changed this week to Thnks Fr Th Mmrs by Fall Out Boy. I used to change ring tones as often as I change my hair (which is quite often) but when I got the Sidekick I discovered I could no longer make my own ring tones and since they cost $2.49 each, I rarely change it. I find something seriously wrong with charging more for the ring tone than the song. A full length song is around $0.99 whereas a sampling of that song (and the sample is usually not even the part you want) as a ring tone is more than $2. That is just insane. If I already own the song I should be able to make a ring tone for it. Completely retarded. Of course, the whole media industry is screwed up and the more they try to be old school the more they will lose, but that is an entirely different rant altogether.

06 - How Deep Is Your Love

Bee Gees “How Deep Is Your Love” was our first dance song at our wedding because it was pretty much the ONLY song we could agree we both liked. It was also a prominent song throughout our courtship. I have total “movie style” flashbacks of him when I hear this song.

That is awesome. I just adore this movie and this soundtrack. It never gets old. My mom used to sing Edelweiss to me every night and I have in turn sang it to my children. I think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

QotD: Thanks for the Memories

What are the 10 most memorable music performances you’ve seen? (Remember, “memorable” may not be good.)

I don’t think I can actually remember ten, I don’t really get out much. I do however, remember my first. My two aunts took me to Starlight in Kansas City to see Donnie and Marie (*I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock and roll* floating through my head). I think I was 4 or so and I do remember dancing on the cooler during the concert while they sat in their lawn chairs and enjoyed the show.

I remember seeing Stone Temple Pilots for the first time as they opened for Megadeth. I went to see Candlebox when I was 8 months pregnant and it kept me in a seat rather than down on the floor. All the rest were Megadeth concerts and a few left me rather unimpressed as Dave Mustaine turned into more of a jerk than ever and the show suffered for it. The last one had Misfits opening and I enjoyed them far more than I did Megadeth.

It’s been awhile since I saw anything. Certainly anything sophisticated. ;)

George Winston: Autumn
This is my absolute favorite instrumental album of all time. I found it as a teenager and have purchased this album several times because I couldn’t live without it if it got lost or damaged. This is like chocolate ice cream for my ears! ;)

I am such a Weird Al fan. First record album I ever bought with my own money was Dare to Be Stupid by Weird Al. Cost $8.00 and was a real vinyl album. =)

QotD: This Song Makes Me Festive

What song gives you the most holiday cheer?
Submitted by Roxy.

O Holy Night. The irony of that is not lost on me, being a non-christian for over 12 years. But I love that song, and I love to sing it as well as God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Emmanuel, Silent Night, and a few others. Something of the beauty of candlelight service, combined with those gorgeous songs on Christmas eve when I was growing up. Reminds me of a more honorable purpose to the season (even if it isn’t centered around God and Jesus and all that for me). Reminds me to give, much more than I receive, and reminds me of the real joy that I experience when I see others light up at the tokens I have bestowed upon them.
